Orthopedics

After patients experience joint replacements, arthroscopic surgery, amputations, fractures, strains and sprains, tendonitis, carpal tunnel syndrome or lower back pain, they typically require rehabilitation to attain their highest level of physical functioning. To accomplish this goal, the patient works closely with rehabilitation specialists who establish a treatment plan consisting of exercise and patient education. As part of the treatment plan, patients may use state-of-the-art rehabilitation equipment which gives therapists the opportunity to evaluate and train the patient using "real life" functional simulation.

Adult Neuro

Patients who suffer from a catastrophic disease or injury benefit greatly from the multidisciplinary team approach used at the Rehabilitation Center. A physical therapist, physical therapist assistant, occupational therapist, speech therapist, and case manager form a team to treat patients suffering from Parkinson's Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, CVA (stroke), Post Polio Syndrome, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injuries and miscellaneous neurological diagnoses. The patient, the patient's family and the patient's physician all play a vital role in the treatment team.

Pediatrics

Many times, when working with pediatric patients, the therapist's goal is to elevate patients to a higher level of functioning desired for their appropriate age group. The children are treated in a pediatric treatment room filled with therapeutic equipment and play toys. Therapists continuously offer praise and rewards and work to develop a trusting relationship with the child. Therapists also work closely with the child's parents, who play a significant role in the child's rehabilitation.

Aquatics

One of the highlights of the Rehabilitation Center is the pool which is used for aquatic physical therapy. Patients benefit greatly when they receive physical therapy in a water medium. For instance, water provides resistance, while at the same time, maintaining support through buoyancy. Because of this unique situation, patients are able to perform exercises in the water that they may not have been able to perform on land. In addition, the water temperature is maintained at a warm, therapeutic level that aids in relaxation and mobility while enhancing the patient's performance.

Those suffering from arthritis (including pediatrics) or Fibromyaglia now have a way to enhance range of motion, strength and flexibility. Other programs include a "Baby and Me" class for children and their caregiver.

Swallowing Therapy

VitalStim Therapy is the first proven treatment for dysphagia, a condition that causes discomfort and difficulty swallowing in 15 million Americans and 75 percent of all stroke victims.

The VitalStim Therapy is the only dysphagia therapy backed by compelling clinical data and cleared by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). It is based on clinical electrical stimulation and proven safe. It has also been remarkably successful in real-world use and has been shown to secure faster and better results than any traditional therapy. It uses small electrical currents to stimulate the muscles responsible for swallowing. At the same time, trained specialists help patients to "re-educate" their muscles through rehabilitation therapy.
